Dennis was born on September 21, 1953 in Fort Dodge, IA to Clayton and Caroline Owen. He was known as an energetic child who always had a smile on his face.

He rocked his way through his teenage years in the band Zarathustra, and was a standout athlete. This is where his deep love of baseball began. In 1972 he graduated from Rockwell City high school. He attended Iowa Central Community College and then earned his bachelor’s degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from Mankato State University. He worked as the Golf Course Superintendent at Terrace View Golf Course for 25 years. He then worked as a Delivery Driver for Spee-Dee Delivery for 15 years.

On September 5, 1981 he married Jeannine Ann Warren at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, MN. Dennis and Jeannine created their life in Mankato, MN where they raised their three daughters. He was a devoted husband and father who instilled a strong Catholic faith and the love of music and sports in his children. For many years he volunteered his time coaching his daughter’s basketball teams and took any other opportunities to be involved in his daughter’s activities. He was a do it yourself guy whether it was fixing a car, tinkering with a lawn mower or taking an entire weekend to frame a window. He was meticulous, he was a perfectionist and he was passionate in life. He had a quirky sense of humor that could only be interpreted by those who knew him best. A normal Saturday morning involved making breakfast to the sound of a premier selection of classic rock played at a house shaking decibel, dancing and singing in the kitchen. In his typical do it yourself approach he tackled the construction of converting his one level home into a two-level home so that his daughters could all have their own bedrooms. It was one of his greatest personal accomplishments.

He was a true Iowan at heart, always finding a way to relate to people and could spend hours reminiscing about his small-town roots and fond memories of growing up there. He enjoyed family, traditions, cooking, concerts, scenic drives and being outdoors.  He never missed a Twins game or a Master’s Golf Tournament. He had a big smile and loved goofing around with his grandkids. His greatest attributes will always shine brightly in his kids and grandkids.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jeannine; children, Sara (Nick) Wescott, Carrie (Luke) Weimert, and Taylor Owen (fiancé, Logan Juliar); grandchildren, Tilia and Mila Wescott, and Teagan and Greyson Weimert; siblings, Mary (Bob) Dalton, David (Diane) Owen, Jeanette Davis, Liz (Rich) Lange, as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Phil Owen, and brother in-law, Stan Davis.

We want to thank Dr. Devineni and the entire Oncology team at Mankato Clinic for their loving, compassionate care.
