Donald J. Anderson

Donald Jerome Anderson, age 91, died peacefully May 16, 2021 in Mankato, Minnesota.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Piligrims Rest Cemetery in Mankato.

Donald was born March 16, 1930 to Oscar and Betsy Anderson (Troe) in Freeborn County, Minnesota at the farm west of Emmons, Minnesota. On June 18, 1955 he married Barbara Louise Weigt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota. Together they raised four children, Diane, David, John, and Lisa.

Donald graduated with his Associate’s degree from Bethany College in 1949, and his Bachelor’s degree from Mankato State College in 1951. He taught a total of 25 years in Madelia, Sauk Centre, and Shawano, Wisconsin. He mainly taught Math & Science at the middle school level, and in his later years also taught drivers ed at the local High School.

We learned many things from Dad but high on the list are, self- reliance, a good work ethic, and above all else our faith.

Donald is survived by his children, Diane (Randy) Wolpern of Montgomery, Minnesota, David (Lisa Crawford) Anderson of Hudson, Wisconsin, John (Lori) Anderson of Newnan, Georgia, and Lisa (Brian) Hartmann of Jordan, Minnesota. In addition to his children Donald also has 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Beatrice, Kathryn, and Orla; his brother, Benjamin; his granddaughter, Lennie Marie Wolpern; and his wife of 60 years, Barbara Louise.
