Donald (DJ) Weller, age 86, passed away on June 12th, at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato where he resided since 2020.
Don was born to Lester T and Marcella (Neidecker) Weller in New Ulm, Minnesota on February 24, 1937. He was raised and educated in New Ulm and Springfield, Minnesota, graduating from Springfield in 1955. He enlisted in the US Navy in November 1955, served in Hawaii, Guam, and Washington D.C. and was honorably discharged in October 1959.
He married Eileen Wibben in 1962 in Sibley, Iowa. Don worked for the US Bureau of Mines, various construction companies and was a production worker for many years. Don was a sports enthusiast throughout his life. He especially enjoyed watching college basketball, the Twins, Gopher sports and his favorite the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed watching his granddaughter’s activities, baseball bus tours and traveling to various locations across the country to watch the NCAA “Final 4” tournaments with Eileen.
Don is survived by two sons, Eric (Carie) and granddaughter Zoey, and Matthew (Wendy) and granddaughters, Mara and Macy; extended family, Peter & Kaysie Weller, Rosie & Ralph Allen, Carol & Ken Schlender, Al & Mary (Lyons) Weller, Dennis Weller, Mary Koskovich Weller and Marlyn & Ethel Wibben plus many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Eileen; sister Ann Malecha, brother Lester (Sonny) Weller and sister-in-law Phyliss Voss.
A special thank you to Dr. Dan Anderson and Season Hoffman (Mankato Clinic), New Perspective Senior Living staff and St. Croix Hospice for helping dad in his last years.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association or Loyola Catholic School.
