Dorothy Helen (Knips) Munns

Dorothy Helen (Knips) Munns, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend went to her heavenly home on May 3rd, 2021. She was 93 years young living at Oak Terrace in North Mankato since November of 2020, where she received excellent care. 

Dorothy was the second-born of four children to Alvin and Lottie (Eshleman) Knips on August 19,1927 in Lismore, MN. She grew up on a farm and was proud to be the first runner up 4-H Health Champion at the MN State Fair in 1943. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1945. After graduating from Nettleton Business College in 1946, she worked as a bookkeeper for Farm Bureau in Worthington and then for several other businesses in southern Minnesota.

She was united in marriage to Navy veteran Robert D. Munns on June 29, 1947. They were happily married for 71 years, raising five children together. Dorothy always said her spiritual gift was whistling so she shared that gift many times for social and church events. She enjoyed reading, bowling, dancing, knitting, cooking, baking, fishing, golfing, shuffleboard, playing cards and cribbage, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with family and friends.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her five children, Diane (Mike) Latterell, Judy (Howie) Wreath, Loren (Michelle) Munns, Barbara (Stephen) Johnson, and Marcia (Tom) Hellman.  Dorothy is also survived by nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, two brothers, one sister, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 10th, 2021 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary (2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN 56003) with visitation one hour prior.
