Doris L. Sutherland

Doris Lorraine Sutherland of Tyler, Minnesota, formerly of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, passed away June 8, 2021, at the Avera Sunrise Manor in Tyler, at the age of 95 years.

Graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Woodland Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Mankato, Minnesota. A Celebration of her life will be from 3-6 p.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Lake Crystal American Legion, Lake Crystal.

Doris was born September 2, 1925, to Herman and Myrtle (Heim) Holtze in Mankato, Minnesota. She graduated from Nicollet High School in 1943 and continued on to Mankato Teacher’s College. Doris taught in Amboy, Kasson, Windom, Alden, and Lake Crystal, and later worked for Sween Corporation. In 1953 she married John Lorin Sutherland of Lake Crystal. Together they had two sons, Jim and Tom. Doris taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Epworth Circle of the United Methodist Church, and also a garden club member for many years. She helped with the spring and fall elementary school book fair. She liked doing activities with the grandchildren and at one time did a lot of gardening, hunting, fishing, reading, and photography.

Doris leaves behind her children, Jim Sutherland of Courtland, Minnesota, and Tom (Linda) Sutherland of Lake Benton, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Megan, Michael, John, and Gary Sutherland; great granddaughter, Justine Rae Welsch; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John in December 1977; her parents; her sister, Carol Holtze; her sister-in-law, Jean Herbst; and her brother-in-law, Charles Herbst.
