Elizabeth Mae Gibson

July 27, 1922 — February 27, 2023

Mankato, MN

Elizabeth (Freundl) Gibson, died Monday February 27, 2023, surrounded by her children. Elizabeth was born July 27, 1922, the second of seven children born to Phillip and Rose Freundl in Mankato, MN. Elizabeth attended high school at Good Counsel as well as Commercial College in Mankato, MN. She raised 4 children and was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a roadmaster’s clerk. It is through her employment that she met her husband, George Gibson. They married in 1963 in Mason City, Iowa. The two lived in Crystal Lake, Illinois before retiring “on the lake” in Madison Lake MN until George passed away in 1990. Elizabeth moved to Mankato in 2000.

Elizabeth was someone who had an unwavering sense of self. She loved and protected her family fiercely. She had great culinary skills, no one will ever rival her apple pie, and a passion for the arts that could be observed through the beautiful clothing she would sketch and bring to life for her and her children. She possessed a sharpness for business and numbers, a quality that was a source of pride for her all the way to the end.

Elizabeth’s family was a great source of pride for her. She was an avid fan of whatever they were doing, cutting out newspaper articles for high school sporting events, saving art projects and handmade gifts, and bragging to everyone about “my *insert child/grandchild’s name*”.

Elizabeth will not be mourned by those left behind but celebrated as she has returned home.

Elizabeth was reunited in Heaven with her husband, George Gibson; parents, Phil and Rose Freundl; grandson, Shane Krueger; granddaughters, Kelly Clitty and Christine Frederick; and a great granddaughter, Gabriela Hebl.

She is celebrated on earth by her 2 surviving brothers; her children, Bud Krueger, Jacque (Quinn) McDonald, Judy Siebenaler, David (Gerri) Krueger; 4 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 18 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
