Gary Elliot Oney, age 78, of Mankato, died April 14, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.

Memorial Service 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Mankato Mortuary with visitation from 1-3 p.m.  Interment with military honors will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Gary was born January 6, 1943 in Mankato to Harold E. and Rosella E. (Edwards) Oney.  He graduated from Mankato High School in 1962 and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962-65.  Gary married Carol I. Jensen on October 6, 1973 at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea.  He worked for Chesley Freightliner Co. for 21 years as a truck detailer until retirement.

Gary was a former member of the police reserve, South Bend Fire Department as a volunteer fireman, American Legion, and as a VINE driver after retirement.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an usher.  He enjoyed reading about WWII, archaeology of the ancient world, and his beloved Toy Farmer magazine.

Gary is survived by his wife, Carol; sister, Kathy (Bob) Bode; cousins, Jeff (Chrisanne) Oney of Owatonna, Wesley (Chris) Fauch of New Prague, Karen (LeRoy) Swanson of Adams, Gayle (Richard) McMonagle of Garden City, Blake (Cheryl) Meschke of Lake Crystal; sisters-in-law, Annette Jensen of Faribault, Brenda (Roger) Swanson of Albert Lea, Judith Busman of Chandler, and Ramona (Doug) Jacobsen of Chanhassen; and extended family.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Rosella and Fred Stuemke; father and step-mother, Harold and Alberta Oney; half-sister, Jeanne Wilhelm; parents-in-law, Ardis and Oliver Jensen; brother-in-law, Irving Busman; nephew-in-law, Eric Schaap; grandparents, Edwards and Oney.
