Gregory Martin Meier

Gregory Martin Meier, age 75 of Mankato, passed away on August 1, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minnesota.

Greg was born on March 11, 1948 in Mankato, Minnesota to Martin “Pat” Meier and Arlene (Halverson) Meier.

He graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1966.

He served in the U S Navy from 1966 until 1970 as a jet engine mechanic, reaching the rank of 2nd Class, Petty Officer. Duty included two years at Point Mugu the United States naval air station near Oxnard, California and two years with squadron VF103 out of Virginia Beach, Virginia on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga at Mayport, Florida one of the largest naval ports on the Atlantic coast.

After returning from the Navy, he started working for Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) plant in Mankato in their Maintenance Department from 1970 for 40 years retiring in 2010. He was also employed by Old Country Buffet in Mankato from 1996 until 2011 as a shift supervisor.

Greg was united into marriage to Annie Oehler at the Church of Nativity in Cleveland on June 24, 1978 and enjoyed 45 married years together. They resided in Cleveland from 1978 until 1984 and then moved to rural St. Peter for 35 years and later moved to Mankato in 2019.

Greg is survived by the love of his life, Annie; son, Dustin (Michelle); two beautiful granddaughters, Addisten and Taylor Meier of Sartell, Minnesota; and one brother, Boyd (Laura) Meier of Lake Crystal.

Greg was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Marie Meier in 2011; his parents, Pat and Arlene Meier; two brothers, Gary Meier in 1968 and Bruce Meier in 2000; and father and mother-in-law, Carl and Ida Oehler.

Greg will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, duck and avid goose hunting, fishing, bowling, and the love of his family and grandchildren. Greg never hesitated to help a family member, neighbor or friend and never expected anything in return. He lived by a quote “When we have each other, we have everything.” He had a lot of fond and treasured memories and looked forward in the Spring to go to his “Happy Place” summer home at King Bee Camp on Lake Koronis in Paynesville, Minnesota. 

Visitation will be held at the Catholic Church of St. Peter from 4-7pm, Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the Catholic Church of St. Peter in St. Peter, Minnesota and also one hour prior to the Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, Monday, August 14, 2023 at the church with Father Craig Timmerman celebrating. Military honors will be provided by the St. Peter Legion. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery Scotch Lake in Cleveland, Minnesota.
