Helen Johanna Stelter

Helen J. Stelter, age 97, of Mankato, died on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Hillcrest Health Care Center.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato.  Visitation will be Thursday, June 2 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary.  Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. 

Helen was born on October 9, 1924 in Jamestown, N.D. to Herman and Ella (Schweim) Fennern.  She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown.  Helen graduated from Jamestown High School and from Martin Luther College in New Ulm with a degree in education.  Helen taught in Colorado for two years.  On August 15, 1948, Helen was united in marriage to Henry F. Stelter at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown.  They moved to Mankato in 1962.  They were blessed with four children, Karen, Mark, David, and Paul.  In 1964, after working for Singer Sewing Machine Co. for 13 years, Hank along with Helen’s help, started Stelter’s Sewing Machines.  She taught many sewing classes over the years.  God blessed the labors of the entire family.  Helen was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on various committees. Helen loved time spent with family and friends and the relationships she made with all of her customers. 

Helen is survived by her children, Karen, Mark, and David (Julie); 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Gilbert (Dynella) Fennern.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Paul; grandson, Troy; daughter-in-law, Jone; and sisters, Irene, Eleanor, and Victoria.
