Herman William Speck

Herman William Speck, age 68, of Vernon Center died on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at his home.

Memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Herman was born on June 6, 1953 in Mankato to Robert and Emma (Miller) Speck. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder. He attended St. John Lutheran School through the 8^th grade and graduated from Wellcome Memorial High School in 1971.

Herman worked with his Dad farming for a few years after graduating, and continued in assisting Dad and brother, Paul, with farm and equipment repairs. He worked maintenance for the town of Good Thunder, as a mechanic for HR Lovall in Winnebago, a trucker for Anderson Trucking in Good Thunder, Rapidan Grain in Rapidan, and as owner and operator of HS Trucking. The last several years Herman opened his shop in Vernon Center, Speck’s Service, welding and repairing farm equipment.

Herman enjoyed his work, the family gatherings, and visiting with friends and customers. He always took time for conversation with anyone stopping by the shop. He will be greatly missed by all.

Herman is survived by his sisters, Arlene (Don) Appel, Margaret Speck, and Sharon Edwards (Harlan Lentz); brother, Paul Speck; nieces, Emily Edwards (Brock Fischer), Amanda Appel and Theresa Appel (Kevin Peplau); nephews, Bill Appel, Jason Appel (Krista Johnson), and Daniel Appel (Laura Fries); great nieces and nephews, Emma and Henry Appel and Liam, Briell and Conner Appel; several cousins; and step-children, Mike, David, Tom Brunz and Melanie Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Harlan Edwards.
