James "Jim" Slater

James Slater, age 82, of Mapleton, died on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at his home.

No services are scheduled at this time. Military burial will be held at Union Cemetery in Mapleton at a later date.

James was the son of Donald and Marion (Hainka) Slater. He was born in Racine, WI on April 11, 1943. He moved to Mapleton where he later graduated from Mapleton High School. Jim enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1964 and was honorably discharged in February 1968 as a second class boilerman (E5). In March 1968, Jim started working for National Poly and he transferred in 1977 to Newark, OH and in 1980 Streamwood, IL. The plant was sold off to Southern Bag and Jim retired from there after 30 years of service in August 1998. He then moved back to Mapleton.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Roxanne Slater of Coshocton, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Anthony Slater; and two brothers, Donald Jr. and Ronald Slater.
