John Milledge Bass

John Milledge Bass, age 85, longtime resident of Minnetonka and currently of Mankato, died Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Visitation will be held from 1pm-3pm, Friday, June 17, 2022 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN 56003. Military honors will begin at 3pm, led by the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad. Burial will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

John was born October 23, 1936 in Miami, FL to Clarence A. and Ruth T. (Hodnett) Bass. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force, serving as crew chief in an RB-45 Reconnaissance Squadron. While serving overseas, John met Cynthia Thompson at a pub in England. They were united in marriage on December 15, 1956 in her hometown of Nottingham, England. After being honorably discharged, John furthered his education at the University of Miami, earning an engineering degree.

John began his engineering career with Boeing Aircraft Corporation in Seattle. As part of his work, John was fortunate to travel across the United States, including California and Florida. He was later employed by Honeywell. John and Cynthia later settled in Minnetonka where John founded his own engineering firm, Bass Associates, Inc.

John is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Cynthia Bass of Mankato; three sons, John Bass of Michigan, Glen (Maggie) Bass of Las Vegas, and Brad (Heather) Bass of Mankato; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dillon Kubiatowicz) Bass and Charles Bass.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ruth Bass and Cynthia’s father Albert, mother Florence and sisters Sheila, Iris and Audrey.
