John Thomas Mayberry, 44 of Mankato, died on July 7, 2026. A visitation will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Monday, July 13 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary. A Funeral Service Celebrating John’s life on Tuesday, July 14 will begin at 11am with a visitation an hour prior in the same location. Burial will be at Eagle Lake Cemetery in Eagle Lake, Minnesota.
John was born on January 26, 1982, in St. James, Minnesota, to Tom and Kathy Mayberry. He graduated from St. James High School before attending Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he earned a Bachelor's degree from the College of Business.
John built his career around helping people, working as an insurance agent for State Farm and as a realtor in Mankato. He also had a passion for flipping houses, which let him put his love of building and fixing things to good use.
John's greatest loves in life were his girls, Aveya and Livia and his partner, Nicole. He was endlessly proud of them, and showed it in the way he showed up — as their tee ball coach, as a devoted "dance dad," and as a father who never missed a chance to cheer them on. Family meant everything to John, and he carried that same loyalty and protectiveness towards Nicole and his sisters throughout his life.
John had a gift for enjoying the simple things. He loved firing up the grill for friends and family, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, and keeping his yard just the way he liked it. His garage was more than a workspace — it was where he tinkered and built woodworking projects. He took pride in his collections, especially his baseball cards, and had a soft spot for fireworks. Some of his favorite hours were spent across the table from his dad, the two of them playing thousands of games of gin rummy over the years. And through it all, he so loved his “Mommy.”
Those who knew John knew a man who was sensitive and tender-hearted, particularly when it came to animals. He was adventurous in his own way, always up for hunting for "treasures," whether that meant wading through a stream or digging through the garbage can. He held tightly to tradition, was fiercely loyal to the people he loved, and — true to form — a little superstitious.
John will be remembered for his big heart, his steady presence, and the deep love he had for his family.
John is survived by his partner, Nicole Oachs; his daughters, Aveya and Livia Mayberry; his father, Tom Mayberry, and his mother and stepfather, Kathy and Grant Lillevold; his sisters, Michelle (Brad) Mohlenbrock, Erin (Casey) Bailey, and Laura (Jay) Zender; and his nieces and nephews, Dillon, Beau, Hannah, Summer, Sailor, Mauricio, Cristian, Carter, Davis, Eleanor, Edison, Carson, Cameron, Ariana, and Caleb.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and his faithful and beloved dogs, Bailey and Trixie.
As a loving father, John devoted himself to his daughters and their future. In his memory, and in support of the girls in the years ahead, memorial contributions may be made to a fund established at Pioneer Bank.
The family is deeply grateful for the kindness, prayers and support of friends and loved ones.
