John C. Splinter died on February 29,2024 at Hillcrest Care Center, Mankato, at the age of 78.   Mankato Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

John was born on May 19, 1945 to Lyle and Agnes Splinter in Mankato, Minnesota, the second of four siblings.  He graduated from St. Clair high school in 1963.  He was a Mankato City Police Officer before going to Highway Patrol Training. He worked as an officer for the MN State Highway Patrol for over 30 years from July 1969 to July 2000.  His last few years in the MN Patrol he was proud to work for Governor Jesse Ventura as a body guard.  His marriage to Katie Hanson in 1967 ended in 1974.His marriage to Ann Bromaghim in 1977 ended in 1993.  His loving companion and caretaker in later years was Deanna (Goodrich) Brunz.  They enjoyed traveling especially motorcycle trips. John loved his cars, Harleys, and working in his garage.

John suffered a brain aneurysm in 2011 resulting in a long recovery in order to return to his home. His need for more care led to an admission to Hillcrest Care Facility in April, 2019.  We are grateful for the care he received by all the Hillcrest staff.

John is survived by his son, Jeremy Splinter, daughter, Jessica Splinter, grandchildren Donald and Willow. Surviving siblings are Lorraine Splinter, Ray (Audrey) Splinter, Barb (Marty) Buckley, and Denny Splinter.

John was preceded in death by parents, Lyle and Agnes, and wives, Katie and Anne.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 19th from 1-5pm at Hooligans, 1400 Madison Avenue, Mankato.  Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
