John Dennis Ullrich III

John Dennis Ullrich III, age 75, of Mankato passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Livestream of the service will be available at www.mankatomortuary.com.

John D. Ullrich, the son of John & Katherine (neé Harris) Ullrich, was born along with his twin sister, Margaret, on May 24, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa. John & Margaret joined their two older sisters, Mary and Janice, and the family grew by regular intervals to a busy household of nine children.

With the family later relocating to Minnesota, he attended local elementary and high schools. John was an attentive son, gentle brother, and a proud uncle. His Christian faith was the framework of his adult life, and he was a daily communicant for as long as his health allowed. He was a devoted Catholic and a decorated Vietnam veteran of the 101st Airborne.

John will be remembered for his wry humor and easygoing nature. He spent several years in Alaska in the 1970s, living in Kodiak and Juneau, where the fishing and fresh seafood were among his joys. He returned to Mankato where he happily resided until his death, on the memorial feast of Saint Philip Neri.

John is survived by his siblings, Mary (Dan) Robinson of Mankato, Janice Ullrich, of Faribault, Margaret Harris of Kodiak, Alaska, Tom Ullrich, of Mankato, Monica Post, of Edina, Joe Ullrich, of Eagan, and Veronica (Mark) Sierakowski of Minneapolis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Minnesota and Alaska.

He was especially blessed by the friendship and care of his nephew, Luke Ullrich, also of Mankato. The Ullrich family would like to extend their gratitude to the administration and staff of Laurel Peak residence and hospice for their dutiful and conscientious years of service to John.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Patrice Lindstrom.

Those who mourn his death are comforted by the hope of heaven where he joins his beloved dog, Buddy.
