Joseph "Joey" Alan Boone

Joey, age 38, passed away in his sleep from a heart attack at his parents home early on Monday, April 18th, 2022. Born in Mankato to Dr. Mark and Barb (Voda) Boone on May 3, 1983, he grew up and lived in lower North Mankato and built a lifetime of memories with his brothers, neighbors, friends and community.

Joey graduated from Mankato West High School in 2002, for all of those who know and love Joe  - we know that this was quite an achievement in and of itself. He also attended SCC.

Joey’s current employment was a Personal Care Attendant for his lifetime friend Chris Boyer. He also drove for Lyft. Joey’s spirit has always been wild and free, and so were his many visions, interests and hobbies - he was always up for adventure and loved to try new things. He had a great eye for photography, enjoyed nature, collecting action figures and gaming. Inspired by his uncle Charlie he could often be found thrifting, collecting, trading and selling online. He encouraged everyone around him to follow their heart and pursue their passions. He made everyone feel special, loved and accepted.

Joey was a member of the Mankato Golf Club and developed into a “pretty good stick.” He always played with his “Pop” and was the frequent medalist.

Joey had a fierce love for family, especially for his four nephews, Alex, Dez, Matty and Harvey. He was a one of a kind uncle that went above and beyond in opening their imagination, teaching new ideas, and exploring cool games. His legacy will continue on to the next generation of Boone boys as they continue on, whether golfing, playing pool, swinging a bat, collection building or treasure finding - these memories will be cherished forever.

Joey’s friends and family always knew that surprise visits and long conversations were a regular occurrence for all who knew and loved him. Joey always brought a smile and ended each visit with one of the worlds best hugs, followed by “I love ya” as he went along his way. Joey leaves us all with a legacy of his love, he will be greatly missed and remembered through a collective treasure trove of love, laughter, memories and stories of the times when…

Joey is survived by his parents, Mark and Barb, brother Casey, his wife Katie and their sons Alex and Dez, brother Nick, his wife Katie and their sons Matty and Harvey. His cousin “sisters” Melissa, Patty and Jackie and lots of Boone and Voda aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joey is preceded in death by his grandparents Lloyd and Marilyn Boone, Dorothy and Edwin Voda, and special Uncle Charlie Voda.

The family recommends having your heart checked. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the local E.C.H.O. Food Shelf, in honor of Joey’s passion for supporting and serving our community. A Celebration of Life is planned for Joey from 1 - 4pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Spring Lake Park Pool Pavilion.

A special thank you to the North Mankato Police Department and the Mankato Mortuary for their professionalism and compassion.
