Joyleen "Joy" Gwen Massop

Joyleen "Joy" Gwen Massop, age 54, of Lake Crystal, passed away on October 1, 2026.

She was born on July 2, 1972. Joy graduated from Mankato West High School in 1990 and went on to earn her associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, and master’s degree. She worked at Alltech for 6 years, where she built a career and connections that were meaningful to her.

On September 27, 2025, Joy married David Massop. They enjoyed spending time going on trips and by making memories that will be forever cherished.

Joy had a special love for plants and enjoyed filling her home and life with them. She loved her daughter, spending time with her dogs, and expressing her artistic skills through creative projects like painting and crocheting. She gave generously of her time by mentoring through the YMCA for 15 years, making a difference in the lives of young people. She enjoyed the freedom and adventure of motorcycle rides and the memories made along the way.

Joy is survived by her daughter, Courtney Kranz; her husband, David Massop; her mother, Marlyce Wachtel; her siblings, Dayna Beeck, Gwen Shouts, Dan Jensen, Jen (Eric) Scholl, and Amanda (Eric) Miller; 13 nieces and nephews; David's daughters, Brooke (Justin) Bisted, Mackenzie Massop, and Allie Massop (fiancé Michael); and David's grandchildren, Kenna, Callen, Jace, and Kaden.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joel Wachtel; and her nephews, Jacob and Dakota.

Memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary with visitation one hour prior to the service.
