Judith Ann Hoppe

Judith Ann “Judy” Hoppe, 78, entered into Eternal Life early on Sunday morning, August 16, 2020 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living, North Mankato.

The daughter of Donald and Eleanor (Clemas) Schleusner, Judy was born on February 16, 1942 in Austin, MN. She graduated from Austin Pacelli High School, and attended Mankato State College (University), where she eventually completed both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in secondary education. It was during her first years at Mankato State that she met her future husband, Robert Hoppe. They were married on October 1, 1960.

Judy taught English, art, and speech communications in public schools at Amboy, LeCenter, Freeborn, Alden, and Wells. She and her husband retired to a family farm in rural Mankato, where she continued to enjoy painting, ceramics, and gardening. In later years, they would spend winters at their second home in Naples, FL. Always generous with her time and creative energy, Judy volunteered working with various gardeners and gardening projects in the Mankato area. She was also active in the Legion of Mary and St. John the Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, her sons Robert and Joel (Darlette), grandchildren Olivia, Andrew, and Faith, as well as several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dean.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 20 at St. John the Baptist Church, 632 S. Broad Street, Mankato. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, with Rosary at 10:30 am. Mass will be at 11:00 am, with Fr. John Kunz, presiding. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, St. Clair. Wearing of face masks and social distancing protocol will be required by all wishing to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to St. John the Baptist Church. Family members express their gratitude to the staff and nurses at Oak Terrace Memory Care.
