KC was the youngest of three sons, born on January 11, 1987 in Mankato to Samuel and Kaye (Wennersten) McKillip. Growing up in Mankato, KC graduated from Mankato East High School in 2005 where he had a passion for hockey. He was a talented defensive player and represented his school with dedication and skill. In his earlier years, KC enjoyed his time watching dirt track sprint car races with his parents and brothers, creating cherished memories. He also grew up playing baseball with his brothers when they were young.

During his childhood, KC developed a love for fishing, spending countless hours on the river, casting his line and appreciating the beauty of nature. As he grew older, KC's passion for fishing continued to thrive, and he was able to fulfill his dream of owning a boat, using it to venture out and share unforgettable moments with his brothers and family. As he grew older, KC was a member of Muskies Inc. Chapter 54.

During his senior year of high school, KC began working at All Seasons Arena. From driving Zamboni to training and hiring new staff, he took pride in his work, and Jared never had to worry about little things.

KC's enthusiasm for sports extended beyond his own participation. He cherished coaching the Mankato East girl’s hockey team in the 2018-2019 season, guiding them to the state tournament, where their determination and teamwork shone brightly. They looked up to him as a coach, and he often said, “Work smarter, not harder” and "STFP." (If you know, you know).

In his spare time, KC indulged in playing paintball with his close-knit group of friends, reveling in the competitive spirit and camaraderie they shared. His genuine love for the game radiated during these adventures.

There was never a dull moment with KC around. His infectious energy, humor, and genuine care for others made him a beloved figure among family and friends. Known for his comforting presence, he had a unique ability to uplift spirits with just a smile or a joke.

KC's dependability was unmatched. He could always be relied upon to lend a helping hand, provide support, or simply be there for those in need.

Beyond his athletic and outdoor pursuits, KC was a devoted father to his four beautiful children, Spencer, Kaylee, Easton, and Kaci, and husband to Emily. He embraced his role with dedication and pride, attending every doctor's appointment, cheering at sports games, and providing unwavering love and support. Whether it was making the perfect ramen noodles or taking care of his saltwater fish tanks, KC was an amazing parent and role model and showed interests in their hobbies. His children were his world, and his commitment to their happiness and well-being was truly unparalleled. KC and Emily were a great team. He was her rock. When Emily would feel stressed or anxious, KC always knew what to say and how to say it. His calming presence will be missed every day.

He is survived by his wife, Emily of Mankato; children, Spencer, Kaylee, Easton, and Kaci; brothers, Samuel McKillip of Mankato and Andy (Liz) McKillip of North Mankato; nephew, Joseph Erickson of Mankato; mother-in-law, Audrey “Nana” Wick of Mankato; grandma, Erma “Oma” Wick of Mankato; aunts and uncles, Jim (Linda) Wennersten of Arizona, Jeanne (Noah) Tilghman of California, and Bob (Mary) Wennersten of Arizona; and many cousins, friends, and hockey players and teammates.

KC was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Kaye McKillip; and maternal grandparents, Betty and Floyd Wennersten.
