Fred, age 88, passed away July 29, 2026 at Pathstone, Mankato, MN.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato, MN. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the Westbrook Cemetery.
Fred was born on October 8, 1937 in Westbrook, MN to Leroy Frederic Sr. and Thordis (Josefson) Lindall. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Fred graduated from Westbrook High School in 1955 and Waldorf College in Forest City, IA in 1957. Fred served in the United States Army for 2 years with an honorable discharge in 1960.
Fred moved to Mankato and worked in truck parts sales and service for several years and Carlson Craft part-time. He then worked for Heintz Pontiac and Toyota in service and then as a shuttle driver until his retirement.
Fred and Jeanette (Jan) Lintner/Knudson were married on April 7, 1967 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Chapel in Forest City, IA.
He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and ushered for several years. He was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Mankato Bowling Hall of Fame. Fred liked to golf and loved hunting. He and his sons, grandsons, and friends spent many seasons hunting pheasants in South Dakota and hunting and fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed trips he and Jan took every year to Rapid City, S.D. to visit daughter, Paula. Fred enjoyed all Minnesota sports including the Vikings, Twins, Wild, Timberwolves, and Gophers. He was a member of the Eagle Lake American Legion, DAV, Deer Hunter’s Association, Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited.
Fred was a “People Person” and loved his family very much.
Fred is survived by his wife, Jan; children, James (Dawn) of Owatonna, Paula (Warren) Malone of Rapid City, S.D., and David (Renee) Knudson of Madison Lake, MN; grandsons, Matt (Sheila) Knudson of Burnsville, MN, Dan (Rachel) Knudson of Carver, MN, Trevor Knudson of Fairmont, MN, Nick Knudson of Madison Lake, MN, and Tim (Kendra) Malone of Rapid City, S.D.; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Ben, Caitlyn, Quinn, Evan, Eli, Gavin, Camryn, Karter, Korbin, McKensie, and Remington; sister, Kathryn Swanson of Milwaukee, WI; brothers, Robert (Mary) of Chaska, MN and George (Alice) of Eden Prairie, MN; sisters-in-law, Gloria Tighe of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Nancy Lintner of Westbrook, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law; and Jan’s 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
