Lola Mae Phelps, age 85, of Good Thunder, died on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Laurel’s Edge Assisted Living.
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Good Thunder. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Good Thunder.
Lola was born on May 24, 1938 at home near Revere, MN to Harold and Thelma (Weedman) Picht. Lola was baptized in August of 1939 at her home in Revere. She was confirmed on May 18, 1952 by W.F. Walther at an Evangelical Lutheran Church. She attended school in Holloway, MN. On April 23, 1955, Lola was united in marriage to Menville “Cubby” August Giese in Holloway, MN. They lived in Hancock, MN before moving to Kellogg, MN for a short time. They moved to Good Thunder in 1972. Menville died in 1991. Lola then married William Phelps in 1994 and he died in 1995. Lola worked in the hospitality industry for many years before working and retiring from Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato as a cook for over 20 years. Lola enjoyed traveling and camping. She was very active in her community. She was a very outgoing, social person and was loved by many.
Lola is survived by seven children, Kevin Menville (Laurie) Giese of Hancock, MN, Karen Kay (Dean Green) Fitzpatrick of Bradenton, FL, Kenton Harold (Rebecca) Giese of Good Thunder, Kellon August (Elizabeth) Giese of Good Thunder, Koreen Marie (Larry) Anderson of Good Thunder, Korwin “Coke” Earl Giese of Good Thunder, and Kristeen Louise Giese of Mankato; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Dennis Picht of Chokio, MN and Larry Picht of Morris, MN; sister, Carol (Kenneth) Rohloff of Alexandria, MN; and foster brother, Glen Schleusner of Stillwater, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Menville and William; two brothers, Earl and brother in infancy; great-grandson, Isaac; and special friend, Tom Van Eaton.
