Lynette “Lynn” Russ, age 85, of Mankato, died on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at her home.

Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Northview.  The service will be livestreamed from Lynn’s obituary page at www.mankatomortuary.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Common Hope.

Lynette Russ was born in Blue Earth, MN on November 7th, 1935 and was the fourth child born to the family of Doctor Homer H. Russ and Mrs. M. Yvonne Russ (Rohlfs) of Blue Earth. She attended Blue Earth Public Schools and graduated in 1953 and then attended the University of Minnesota graduating in 1957 with a BS in Health and Physical Education. She would obtain a master’s degree from Mankato State and later worked toward a PhD at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She started her teaching career in Minnesota and then moved to Illinois and then on to Florida. At the end of her tenure in education she was the Elementary and Secondary Principal located in Freeborn and Concord Minnesota. She was very active in sports and played on the ladies Softball team in Blue Earth and judged women gymnastics for several years in Mankato. At one time she was the Champion of boxing in the Russ family until her little brother became much larger than her and then boxing came to an end.

Lynn loved the outdoors, especially hiking and camping.  She enjoyed gardening and helped start the garden for CADA.  Lynn volunteered her time with the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Partners for Affordable Housing, and VINE.  She went on trips to Guatemala with Common Hope.  Lynn was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and was a member of the church choir. 

Lynn is survived by her life partner, Char Lusher; sister, Holyce; brother, A.B. Russ; and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert and Homer.
