Margaret Anne Burman, age 98 of Mankato, Minnesota went peacefully to her heavenly home on January 16, 2026 at Ecumen Pathstone Living with her family at her side.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, with visitation one hour prior, at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota.
Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church or Ecumen Pathstone Living, both in Mankato.
Margaret was born on September 16, 1927, in Sebeka, Minnesota, to Nels & Florence (Peterson) Lindau. They moved from Wadena, Minnesota (where her father was a pastor to 3 rural parishes) and moved to Salem, South Dakota when she was 4 years old, where her father was the Pastor of Center Lutheran Church. She attended country grade school and graduated from Salem High School in 1945. She received her RN degree at Sioux Valley Nursing School, Sioux Falls South Dakota, in 1948. On September 14, 1948, she was united in marriage to Wally Burman at Center Lutheran Church in a ceremony performed by Margaret’s father. Wally and Margaret lived in Sioux Falls until July 1958 when they moved to Mankato Minnesota. Margaret worked part-time at Immanuel Hospital until going to the Mankato Lutheran Home, where she worked for 20 years as a registered nurse.
Margaret was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed volunteering at the church. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Mankato Lutheran Home, later known as Pathstone, and served as an auxiliary board member. Margaret loved gardening, especially roses. She loved music, and listening to her grandchildren’s musical accomplishments. She was very interested in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and being a part of their lives as much as time and distance allowed.
Margaret is survived by son John (Suzanne) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, daughter Cindy (Jim) Bigham of Long Lake, Minnesota and Patti (Ernie) Emad of Miami Florida. Her heart was full of so much love for her 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wally in January 1990, sister June Hanna in 2010, parents Nels and Florence, sisters-in-law Vesta, Dottie and Bernice and brothers-in-law Gordon, Rudolph, Tony and Bill Hanna.
