Margaret “Peggy” Ann Fleming, age 97, of Mankato, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023 surrounded by her children at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. June 20, 2023 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Vernon Center with visitation one hour prior led by Deacon Chris Walchuk. Private burial at Garden City Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements – www.mankatomortuary.com

Margaret was born June 3, 1926 in Mankato to Robert and Eva (Townsend) Sowers. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1945 and attended the University of Minnesota. Peggy was united in marriage to Charles R. Fleming on September 27, 1947 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Vernon Center, and they were blessed with three children. In their later years, Peggy and Charlie wintered in Apache Junction, AZ. Peggy enjoyed flower gardening, picking fresh strawberries and raspberries, cooking wonderful meals, playing cards, pressing her luck on penny slot machines, and spending time with her family. One of the highlights of her life was meeting “the other” Peggy Fleming (Gold Medal Olympic medal winner).
Peggy is survived by her children, Douglas Fleming of Mizpah, Charlene (Art) Schuch of Amboy, and Bert (Beth) Fleming of Garden City; granddaughter Ann (Tom & Piper) Petersen; grandson, Jasha (Denise, Ricky, Rylee) Reynolds; and extended family, Heather (Darren, Alexandria & Victoria Stafne) Vrieze; Logan (Anna, Marleigh & Mable) Johnson, Morgan (Abby, Jaden, McKenna, Tony, Joseph, Allie) Johnson, Dani (Eli & Allie) Reynolds, and Roman Wagner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Fleming; brothers, Sumner (Cleo) Sowers and Gage (Cordie) Sowers; sisters, Helen (Steven) Fairfield, Irene (Otto) Forus, Effie Sowers, and Leila Sowers.
