Margaret Ann "Muggs" Zabel

Margaret Ann “Muggs” Zabel, 72 of Mankato, formerly of St. Clair, passed away July 25, 2022 after a hard fought battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA) at Mankato Lodge Senior Living.

Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in St. Clair. The service will be livestreamed and available on Muggs’ obituary page at www.mankatomortuary.com.

Muggs was born October 15, 1949 in Mankato. She graduated from Minnesota Lake High School in 1967. On September 14, 1968 she married Dennis Zabel. Together they raised four children, Troy, Jill, Tracy, and Katie. Muggs was the Insurance Manager at McPherson Minn Lake Mutual Insurance Company in St. Clair before she retired in 2017. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Muggs enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Crosslake, MN, spending time with her bible study group, and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, and shopping. Muggs will be remembered as a strong, caring, faith-filled, and loving family woman and Grandma.

Muggs is survived by children, Troy (Kelly) of Mankato, Jill Kroc of Mankato, and Tracy (Chris) Songe of New Prague; grandchildren, Haley, Shaya, Peyton, Riley, Christian, Kate, George, and Ian; nine siblings; and step mother in law, Edie Zabel of Wells.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; daughter, Katie; and sister, Elaine.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mankato Lodge Senior Living for all the love and wonderful care they provided to her the past year. They would also like to thank Moments Hospice for their compassion and care.
