Mark “Doc” Boone, age 72, passed away at MCHS Mankato on Thursday, August 8th, 2024, from complications of the West Nile Virus.
Mark was born on 11/8/1951 to Lloyd and Marilyn Boone. He grew up in St. Louis Park, MN, attended St. Louis Park High School, and graduated in the class of 1970. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College, where he met Barbara Ann Voda of Mankato, and they were married on 12/28/1974 at Gustavus Adolphus Chapel. Mark was accepted into the University of Minnesota Dental School, where he graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1977.
Mark practiced with a dental group in Minneapolis for a few years. In 1980, Mark and Barb moved to Lower North Mankato where he opened his own dental practice, and they raised their three sons, Casey, Nick, and Joey. Together Mark and Barb ran their dental practice for close to 40 years and retired in May of 2017. Mark would want to thank all of the wonderful people in our community who supported his practice and made it possible to raise his family here. He truly felt blessed. Mark was also an adjunct faculty member in the Dental Hygiene Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato for over 39 years. He cherished this position and continued to be actively involved with it, even after retirement.
Mark’s hobbies were numerous. He enjoyed collecting stamps, building and racing model slot cars, but golfing and the Minnesota Twins were his true passions. His goal was to play 100 rounds of golf each summer and it was frequently met. He was a member of the Mankato Golf Club for 27 years, where he was a proud owner of a hole in one. He valued the beauty and peacefulness the course brought him. Mark rarely missed a Twins game and basked in the glory of being able to attend both World Series. He attended 40 Twins home openers and took his kids to every playoff series. It was fitting his initials were MLB. Mark was also a member of the North Mankato American Legion Post 518, where he enjoyed spending time with the community and good friends.
Mark was a proud and loving husband, father, and grandpa who enjoyed sharing his passions with his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Barbie, of 49.5 years; his son Casey, wife Katie, and their sons Alex and Desmond; his son Nick, wife Katie, and their sons Matt and Harvey; his brother Charlie (Ann) Boone; his sister Nancy (Doug) Orman; his brother-in-law Jim (Linda) Voda; sister-in-law Terese Voda; many nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Marilyn Boone, his in laws Dorothy and Edwin Voda, his brother-in-law Charlie Voda, and his youngest son Joey.
