Mark Alois Scheidel

Mark Alois Scheidel, 71, of Mankato died on July 12, 2022 surrounded by his family. Mark was an intelligent and caring husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. 

Mark graduated from Mankato High School in 1969. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years and graduated from Mankato State University with a focus on Urban Planning. He worked for regional government during his early career, was an independent contractor for four years, and eventually retired after 18 years with the MN Department of Transportation. He was a well-respected colleague.

Mark was an accomplished songwriter and guitarist and spent a lot of his time over the years making and sharing music with family and friends. He wrote a personalized song for each of his four grandchildren and wrote many songs for other family members as well.

Mark loved the family cabin on Lake Washington and spent as much time there as he could. He taught his children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews how to fish there and was continuously on the hunt for the elusive Lake Washington super-northern, Casey. He also enjoyed hunting pheasants and waterfowl in his second home of Aberdeen, South Dakota and rarely missed a season spending time with the beloved Forseth family.

Mark was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandpa who will be missed dearly.

Mark is survived by his wife of 49 years, Teresa (Tari); daughter, Meghan; son, Andrew (Sharon); son, Eric (Elizabeth); four grandchildren, who he adored, McKeon, Greta, Fritz, and Soren; his father, Dr. Alois Scheidel; five sisters, Ann (Joe) Keenan, Mary (Brad) Nett, Cate (Mark) Brumm, Liz (Mark) Schramm, and Jane Scheidel; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held at 2:30pm, Friday, July 22, 2022 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 1pm at Northview. Please share a memory of Mark with his family, view his video tribute, and watch the service livestreamed at www.mankatomortuary.com.
