Marlin "Monnie" E. Hickey

Marlin Emmet Hickey, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato, surrounded by his family.

Funeral Service 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Saturday.  Private Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Memorials may be given to the MSA Coalition (Multiple System Atrophy).

Monnie was born July 23, 1937, to Emmet and Bernice (Kindler) Hickey in Highwater Township, Cottonwood County, rural Lamberton, MN. He attended country school until transitioning to Lamberton High School.  He worked on the family farm and participated in 4-H.  He had one sister, Arlene and two brothers, Bob and Jim.  He enjoyed his free time at the Springfield swimming pool where he met the love of his life, Lenora Hammerschmidt, a.k.a., “Ham”.  The were married on April 12, 1955.  They located to Cloquet, MN, where Monnie worked at the Wood Conversion.  They welcomed their first daughter, Kay, and shortly after a daughter, Pam, followed with a daughter, Julie.  Their fourth child, a son, Michael, and one more daughter, Lana.

Eventually raising their family in North Mankato, MN where Monnie pursued his career as a Salesman.  He was an explorer of different businesses including, Century Trailer Repair, owner of Hickey’s Landing, and H&M Campers.  Monnie remained selling campers until he retired at the age of 80.  He enjoyed camping with his family, going to the casino, and especially deer hunting with his son.  Above all, Monnie loved his family.

Monnie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lenora; his daughters, Kay, Pam, Julie (Bob), Lana (Randy); his son, Michael; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Linda) and Jim (Terri); nieces and nephews.

Monnie was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Arlene and son-in-law, Jerry.
