Marlys Johnson

Marlys Arlene Johnson, 80, of Lake Crystal, died December 3, 2022 at the Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal with visitation one hour prior to the service. Lake Crystal Mortuary is assisting the family. Livestreaming will be available at www.mankatomortuary.com.

Marlys was born July 11, 1942 to Reinhart and Lois (Johnson) Bruns in Fulda, Minnesota. She graduated from Fulda High School. On July 16, 1960, Marlys married Dick Johnson in Fulda. Together they raised two sons, Dean and Jody.

Marlys and Dick farmed until 1985. In 1986, they moved to Arizona where they remained until Dick’s retirement in 1999. Following retirement, they traveled extensively, including trips throughout the US, a trip to Germany and Hawaii.  

Marlys was a member of the Presbyterian churches in Fulda, Minnesota and Yarnell, Arizona. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling with Dick, going for walks, entertaining friends and family, and her dog, Eddie.

Marlys is survived by her son, Jody (Lisa) Johnson of Lake Crystal; grandchildren, Sara (Matt) Halvorson and Tosh (Sara) Johnson; great grandchildren, Kaylee Johnson, Connor, Olivia, Owen, and Lilah Johnson, and Kylie and Drake Halvorson; and brother, Darrel (Donna) Bruns.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; son, Dean; and grandson, Seth Johnson.
