Marvin was born in Good Thunder, MN on September 18, 1928 to Henry and Emma (Poppe) Leiding. He was the second youngest child of ten siblings - three sisters and six brothers. Following his graduation from Mapleton High School in 1946, he worked on the farm for a few years before serving in the Army from 1950 - 1952.

Marvin was blessed to have three wonderful wives. He married Donna Weigt on January 3, 1952. They moved to a farm near Mankato, where they raised their daughter and three sons until Donna passed away on December 19, 1999. While on a cruise down the Danube River, Marvin met Jeanne Moxley on a two-week Danube riverboat cruise. They were married on February 15, 2001, and enjoyed ten years together, dividing their time between their homes in Mankato and Lake Havasu City, AZ. After Jeanne passed away on February 16, 2012, Marvin reconnected with a friend, Marlys Heller. They were united in marriage on April 6, 2013, and he welcomed her two daughters, one son, and four grandchildren into the family.

Marvin was passionate about his faith, family, friends, and farming. He taught his family the value of a hard day’s work and instilled a love of farm life. He was a kind man with a big heart who loved engaging in spirited conversations and had a superb wit and fantastic sense of humor. He was committed to community service and served on the board of directors for the Crystal Valley Cooperative. He was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served in many different capacities at the church. He loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited several countries and most states. He welcomed all opportunities to meet with friends; when you met him, you were his friend. After his faith and family, he loved farming. One of the hardest days of his life was the day he was no longer able to operate the combine.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Marlys Heller-Leiding, children Sandy (Terry) Kranz of Cleveland, MN, Bradley (Linda) Leiding of Lake Crystal, MN, Michael (Jan) Leiding of Mankato, MN, and Randy (finace Kristine Hoelzle)Leiding of Susanville, CA, Bob Heller of Mankato, MN, Angie (Mike) Cofield of Mankato, MN, and Sarah (Bob) Heller-Zimprich of Mankato, MN, Sherry (Randy) Laswell, and Scott Isaacson, 21 grandchildren and spouses and 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and sister-in-law, Geneva Leiding.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one grandson, Brady Leiding, wives, Donna Jean (Weigt) Leiding and Wilma Jeanne (Moxly) Leiding, and siblings Elmer, Lloyd, Ruth, Richard, Vern, LeRoy, Verminda, Arline, and Lester.
