Mary Catherine McComb

Mary Catherine McComb, 77, of Mankato, Minnesota passed away on March 1, 2024. Mary was born to William and Louise McComb on July 10, 1946 and grew up on a farm outside of St. Clair, Minnesota. After attending Mankato State University, Mary went on to serve as the librarian and German teacher in the St. James School System. Upon retirement, Mary became a dedicated volunteer at the Blue Earth County Historical Society as well as a part-time librarian and lifelong learner of both languages and history at Bethany Lutheran College. Mary was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church and also attended services at Bethany Lutheran College's Trinity Chapel as an admirer of the instrumental concerts.

To her family, she will be fondly remembered as Aunt Mary, the family historian who connected them to their roots through photographs, thorough research, and most importantly stories filled with vivid details and connections to the towns of St. Clair, Mankato and Pemberton. Her nieces, nephew, grandniece and grandnephews could always cajole her into a friendly (sometimes fierce) game of kickball or a board game at holiday gatherings, but never quite into dog sitting. Mary travelled extensively, was an avid bicyclist, and walked daily at Good Counsel Hill. Her family and friends will miss her conversation, energy and intellectual curiosity greatly.

Mary is survived by her brother Bill, sister Joanne, brother-in-law Bob, nieces and nephew Betsy, Sara and Mark, and grand niece and nephews Katie, Matthew, Ryan, Will and Emmett.

Please join us in celebrating her life Saturday morning May 18, 2024 at 11 AM at the Hosanna Highland Campus & Community Church at 329 Ellis Ave, Mankato, MN 56001.

In lieu of flowers, please direct donations in Mary's name to the Blue Earth County Historical Society (, Bethany Lutheran College ( or Hosanna Lutheran Church (
