Mary McLaughlin

Mary McLaughlin passed away on December 9th, 2021, after a short illness. She passed with peace and grace and had her family at her side.

Mary was born on December 1, 1943, in Madison Lake to Myles and Margaret Smith. Her twin sister was also born on that day.  Mary graduated from Good Counsel Academy in 1961 and went on to nursing school at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester MN. She was a nurse in several states before returning home in 1968.

On August 21, 1970, she married Charles McLaughlin and they started a life and a family in Mankato. She took a break from nursing when her children were born, and returned to her vocation in 1989, working until she retired in 1996 due to a medical complication. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Reich; and sister-in-law, Terry Reich.

Mary was the smiliest person you could ever have known. Her joy came from her family and friends, and she was quick to visit with anyone whether they were a lifelong friend or someone new, she never met a stranger. She was smart, sassy, and full of advice. She enjoyed visiting (particularly with her Monday coffee group) reading, music, and spending time with her family.

Mary leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Charles; her daughters, Jessica (Tim Wright), and Jolene; grandchildren, Jamie Wright and Alec Wright; great-grandson, Cameron Wood, her twin sister, Margaret “Muggs” (Jim) McLaughlin; brother-in-law, Dennis and Lynda McLaughlin, many nephews and their families, friends, neighbors, and other family members. She loved well and was well loved.

A private family interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.  A Celebration of Mary’s Life with friends and family will be held at a later day. Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato is in charge of arrangements.

Her family is grateful for the wonderful care and compassion of the doctors and nurses at Mayo Health Systems in Mankato that cared for her in her last days. To celebrate and honor her memory, please consider a donation to ECHO Food Shelf or a charity of your choice. If you are sad, buy yourself a bouquet of flowers. Cards can be sent to Charles McLaughlin, 1505 Lor Ray Drive,  North Mankato, MN 56003
