Mary Helen Wersal, beloved mother, grandmother and dedicated homemaker, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Memorials are preferred to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Mary was born on July 28, 1928 to Michael and Rose (Mahowald) Rauchman in Mankato. She graduated from Loyola High School in 1946.
Mary was married to Rodney Wersal and together they raised five wonderful sons—Mike, Randy, Greg, Jeff, and Mark. Mary cherished camping and fishing trips, a passion she joyfully passed down to her sons and their families and continued to enjoy into her 92nd year. In addition to camping, she took much pride in her yard spending many hours tending to her lawn and flowers. Mary enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events, as well as playing cards and games with them, especially Yahtzee! Mary was also known for years as the playground lady at Monroe Elementary School, which she truly enjoyed. An accomplished seamstress in her earlier years, Mary made clothes, pajamas, and shirts for her boys, showcasing her love and nurturing spirit. Her love for family extended beyond her home as she committed herself to serving Holy Rosary Church in numerous capacities over the years as a dedicated volunteer at funerals, church cleaning and various parish events.
Mary’s generous heart will forever remain in the cherished memories shared with her family and all those that knew her.
Mary is survived by five sons, Mike (Glenda) Wersal of Red Wing, Randy (Gale) Wersal of North Mankato, Greg (Barb) Wersal of Eagle Lake, Jeff (Cari) Wersal of Le Sueur, and Mark (Amy) Wersal of North Mankato; grandchildren, Cory (Samantha), Curt (Rachel), Matt (Sarah), Jen, Dan (Jessica), Ryan (Melissa), Nick (Emie), Samantha (Troy) Carrillo, Chris (Sara), Cole (Meghan), Gen (Asita) Goonewardena, August (Kim) Westphal, Brad (Beth), Scott (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Noah, Madison, Caden, Carly, Madeline, Aiden, Xavier, Anne Catherine, Ignatius, John Joseph, Elizabeth, Emil, Maeve, Cormac, Willem, Delilah, Lenox, Gavin, Mason, Cooper, Harrison, Sarah, Lydia, Lila, Luke, Liam, Easton, Jackson; siblings, Donna (Mike) McGoff of Brodhead, WI and Loren (Sharlene) Rauchman of Manteca, California; and sister-in-law, Lavonne “Vonnie” Rauchman of North Mankato.
