Maxine “Max” Marie Davis, age 86, of Mankato, died peacefully, May 6, 2026, at her home.
Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11 a.m., Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Maxine was born May 28, 1939, to Donald P. and Laura M. (Schaffer) Busch in Slayton, MN. She grew up in Hadley, MN and graduated from Slayton High School in 1957.
Max married Richard J. Davis on February 20, 1960. They later divorced.
Max graduated from South Central Vo-Tech with her degree in nursing. She worked for over 30 years at ISJ Hospital, Mankato, in mental health and later the dialysis unit from which she retired in 2008. Max was a past board member of the State AFSCME and past National President of the Licensed Practical Nurses Association.
Max was very involved with Holy Rosary Catholic Church, serving in many capacities over the years. She enjoyed bowling, softball, was a charter member of the Geriatric Softball League, garage sales and thrifting.
Max is survived by her seven children, Greg Davis (special friend, Jane Schimschock), Vicki Henry, Jon (Leslie) Davis, Gary (Jana) Davis, Sara Davis, Jerry Davis, and Timothy Davis; nine grandchildren, Melissa (Paul) Pristas, Mitch (Linzay) Davis, Mercede (Keith) Parnau, Jason (Michelle) Henry, Jill (Curtis) Smith, Chelsea (Rob) Riley, Kim (Morgan) Sanders, Tyler Davis (fiancé, Courtney Ware), and Alexa Davis; fourteen great-grandchildren, Paisley, McKenza, and Kelby Pristas, Waverly and Everette “Evie” Davis, expected baby Parnau in June, Katelyn DiMattia, Alexander and Lillian Henry, Brynley, Brody, and Mayla Smith, Adalyn and Roselyn Riley, Aidan Sanders; three siblings, Marilyn (Hilary) Barry, Nancy Woitaszewski, and Jim Busch; in-laws, Ralph Surprenaut and Don Schmitz; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Max was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jay Francis Davis; two siblings, Myrna Surprenaut and Arlene Schmitz; in-law, Alan Woitazsewski; special friend, Chuck Dahline.
