Merle H. Moses, Sr.

Merle Harry Moses, Sr., age 92, of Mankato, died on July 19, 2026 at Ecumen Pathstone Living.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Madelia. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Ecumen Hospice. Merle was born on September 19, 1933 in Madelia to Harry and Lorna (Stolt) Moses. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1952 and went on to serve in the US Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1957. Merle was united in marriage to the love of his life, Veronica Larson, on June 5, 1959 in Mapleton. They met at a roller rink and were married for 63 wonderful years. They farmed together in Madelia until 1969 and then moved to Mankato. Merle and Veronica were loving role models to their family.

Merle enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time in the great outdoors. He was a gifted wood worker and crafter, skilled at painting and carving. A conversationalist, he always knew when to lighten the mood by cracking a joke. One of his favorite “dad jokes” was, “How can you tell if a train went by? – It left its tracks!” He was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church. Most of all, Merle loved his time spent with his family, cherishing each moment with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Merle is survived by his children, Merle Moses, Jr., Michael (Tammy) Moses, and Misty (Mike) Schweim; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and his son-in-law, Paul Ellingworth.
