Merle R. Weinkauf, age 94 of Annandale and formerly of North Mankato, died Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Annandale Care Center.


Private family funeral will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Mankato. Burial will be at New Ulm City Cemetery. Please feel free to sign the guest book at Memorials may be given to the Parkinson Foundation. The family would like to thank the Staff at Annandale Care Center and Pastor Green of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Monticello.


Merle was born February 14, 1926 to Adolph and Lucy (Schulze) Weinkauf in Holland, Minnesota. He served his country in the US Army. Merle was united in marriage to Caroline Lange on May 14, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet. Merle was employed by Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 30 years.


Merle was a charter member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Mankato and was active as an usher, trustee and deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 510, Nicollet. Merle enjoyed fishing trips, woodworking, playing cards, traveling, and church bible studies.


Merle is survived by daughter, Connie (Jon) Boonstra of Buffalo; grandchildren, Leslie (Scott) Gearey, Todd (Stacy) Boonstra, Jason (Cheryl) Boonstra; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Dawson and Dylan Gearey, Jack, Alexis and Sam Boonstra, Nathan and James Boonstra; brother, Ervin Weinkauf; sisters-in-law, Gertrude “Trudy” Storjohann and Iona Heath; brother-in-law, Arlo Lange; many nieces and nephews.


Preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Caroline on November 11, 2019; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty”Abbott; brothers-in-law, Loren Storjohann and Vernon Heath.
