Michael "Old Tracks" Cornish age 72, of Mankato died Wednesday, (12-1-2021) at Autumn Grace Assisted Living, Mankato.
Memorial Service 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Vernon Center. Visitation one hour before and immediately following the service. Burial later in Vernon Center Cemetery. Memorials to Mayo Health Care Hospice or to an organization of the donor's choice.
Michael David was born April 6, 1949 in Mankato to Wesley and Irene (Pahl) Cornish. He graduated from Garden City High School and attended MSU-Mankato. Michael was a proud member of the Army National Guard, served on the Vernon Center Township board and other various county environmental committees.
While employed for over 14 years as a rural mail carrier, Michael built a great relationship with many of his clients. He assisted them with small projects and received numerous gifts, food, and smiles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He taught his nieces and nephews how to hunt and provided safety education programs to area youth and schools. He worked alongside his father in the exterior and interior painting business.
Survived by siblings, Sharon Larson of Brooklyn Park, Wayne (Kathy) Cornish of Nicollet, Michelle (William) Negaard of Vernon Center, Tony Cornish of Vernon Center, Denise (Bob) Grant of Winnebago; sisters-in-law, Rita Cornish of St. Peter, Barbara Cornish of New York, NY; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Maureen, Jerry, and Greg; and brother-in-law, Gordon Larson.
