Michael "Mike" John Hoffman, 77, passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2026.
Born on November 26, 1948, to Alvin and Dorothy Hoffman, Mike grew up with a strong sense of family, community, and service that would define his life. He was the beloved brother of Judith Robeck and Charles Hoffman and carried the values instilled in him throughout his years.
Mike graduated from St. Peter High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He enlisted in the US Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1969 as Staff Sergeant, followed by enlisting in the US Army Reserve in 1973 and being honorably discharged in 1988 as a Sergeant Major. He dedicated 33 years of service to the Mankato Police Department, retiring on November 30, 2003. His commitment to protecting and serving the community earned him numerous honors, including Honorable Mention for Minnesota Police Officer of the Year in 1989 and Mankato Police Officer of the Year in 1990. He flourished his love of motorcycles during his time at Sturgis in South Dakota, devoting 9 years of his time there from 2004-2015.
On September 15, 1984, Mike married Jan Hoffman in Mankato, Minnesota. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship, and shared adventures.
Outside of his career, Mike enjoyed bowling, woodworking, pistol shooting, softball, baseball, and motorcycle rides. As a proud member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG), he cherished the freedom of the open road and the friendships he made along the way. He was always eager to share his knowledge and experiences with fellow enthusiasts.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Jan Hoffman; children, Cliff Kopischke (Tami); grandchildren, Baxter Hoffman (Natasha), Baily Hullopeter (William), Jackie Hoffman (Matthew), and Katie True (Isaac); great-grandchildren, Connor, Scarlett, Madden, Violet, Quinn, Grace, and Miles; sister, Judith Robeck (Marshall); brother, Charles Hoffman (Deb); and his faithful dog, Duke.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael “Mick” Alvin Hoffman; daughter, Theresa Hoffman; parents, Alvin and Dorothy Hoffman; and his beloved dogs, Shelly and Shadow.
Mike will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his distinguished career in law enforcement, his love of motorcycles and the Vikings, and the kindness and humor he shared with those around him. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched throughout his 77 years and the memories he leaves behind.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at North Mankato Mortuary, with Pastor Bourman officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 10am.
Throughout his life, he served his country and community with honor, courage and integrity. Mike’s family invites all who knew and loved him to join them in celebrating a life well lived and a man who will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
