Michael Thomas Kumbalek, age 76, of Eagle Lake, MN died on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester, MN.

Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Northview – North Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Michael Thomas, the son of Bennett and Althea (Olsen) Kumbalek, was born on April 3, 1946 in Appleton, WI. He attended St. Joseph’s Elementary and graduated from Xavier High School in 1964, both in Appleton, WI. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the USMC Drum Corps. Michael graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh with a BA in Sociology. He married Rev. Jeanne Izzo on April 6, 1991. Michael operated his own ergonomic business furniture company. He was active in Kiwanis Club in Appleton and LaCrosse, WI and was a church choir member. Michael loved to cook and volunteered to feed people in need for both Hope of House a couple times a month, and for those in need of Thanksgiving dinner and he was always in charge of cooking the turkey. He loved listening to Jazz music and was a fan of old time TV shows and documentaries. Michael also loved watching birds and various wildlife in his backyard. He enjoyed traveling to new places with close friends and family. Most of all, he loved hearing about his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and took pride in all they have done.

He is survived by his wife, Rev. Jeanne Kumbalek; son, Brien (Christy) Kumbalek and their children, Kyra and Bennett, all of San Antonio, TX; daughters, Rachel “Roxyy” Kumbalek of Perrysburg, OH and Lena (Lance Newton) Izzo-Newton of Las Vegas, NV; and sister, Mary Kumbalek (Tom Hanby) of Iola, WI.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Kasota Presbyterian Church, Lake Crystal Presbyterian Church, or Shriners Hospital.
