Michael John Melvin

Michael “Mike” John Melvin, age 62, of Mankato, died Saturday, December 17, 2022 surrounded by family at home.

Mike was born March 3, 1960 in Mankato to Monroe R. and Irene E. (Schnobrich) Melvin. He graduated from Mankato East High school in 1978 and studied mechanics at South Central Technical College. Mike married his high school sweetheart, Raynell Salfer, on August 30, 1980. In 1991, they purchased RC Equipment in Missouri and lived in St. Louis for 9 years before moving back to the Mankato area. Mike continued to work various sales jobs throughout his career.

Mike was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and had a passion for bow hunting. He also enjoyed 4-wheeling, hunting up north, sharpening knives, collecting guns, and spending time on the farm with his children and grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife, Raynell of North Mankato; children, Matt (Calais) Melvin of Madison Lake, Erica Melvin of Gaylord, Ana Melvin of St. Peter, and Alex (fiancée Kayla Lorentz) Melvin of Mankato; grandchildren, Cassidy Schoener, Jade Melvin, Aurora Lehrke, Aynslee Hellebust, Ezra Melvin, and Charleann Melvin; great-grandchildren, Lucas Melvin, Josie Ward, and one on the way; and siblings, Richard (Linda) Melvin, Donna Embree, Lois Palmquist, Mary (Tito) Ortega, and Patty Melvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Melvin; and son, Joe Melvin and his fiancée, Jessica Dalluge.
