Rae E. Allan, age 100, passed away on April 29, 2026 at Pathstone in Mankato, MN where she had been a resident for 15 years. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13 (her birthday) with Pastor Jacie Richmond officiating at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 720 S Second Street in Mankato. Services will be conducted in the same chapel where Rae and her husband were united in marriage. Northview – North Mankato Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
Rae Eloise Allan was born to Lloyd and Anna Marian (Haugen) Swenson on May 13, 1925 in Sherburn MN. She attended school in Sherburn and graduated from Sherburn High School. She continued her schooling at Mankato State Teachers College in Mankato, MN. After graduation, she taught school at various schools in the area including Amboy, Good Thunder and St. Clair. Many of her former students kept in contact with “one of their favorite teachers.” She continued to impress them and others with her vast knowledge and memories of the past, remembering names and places. They enjoyed her quick wit and great sense of humor. She was also employed by the MN Valley National Gas Co for several years and the MN Valley Regional Library.
Rae married Ralph (Buzz) Allan on May 29, 1947 and they celebrated 51 years of marriage before Ralph’s passing in November of 1998. They enjoyed their life in Mankato spending time with family and friends and enjoyed traveling together. They were long time members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Rae was involved in activities in the Church including the Dorcas Circle, and she was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Rae is survived by niece Deb (Frank) Nelson, nephew Spencer (Mickey) Wood, great-niece Jennifer (Mike) Guyer-Wood and cousins. She is also survived by good friends Bruce and Mary Beth Royer of North Mankato who have helped her with her care during the past 28 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Anna M Swenson, beloved husband Ralph Allan, her sister Ruth (Don) Wood, brother Russell Swenson, and nephew Sidney Wood.
We thank the staff at Pathstone and Ecumen Hospice for the great care she has received while living there for the past 15 years which included Assisted Living and Long Term Care. Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pathstone and Vine.
Rae is buried next to her husband Ralph at Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.
Blessed be the memory of Rae E. Allan.
