Longtime Mankato attorney, Bob Johnson, 87, died September 16, 2023 at Pathstone Living. He was the husband of Patrice Johnson, father of Laura, Mara, and Malcolm. Service will be held later.  Details updated below.


 

Robert George Johnson died on September 16, 2023, at Pathstone Living in Mankato.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., October 14, 2023, at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Mankato Mortuary and continues immediately following the service at the Mankato Golf Club. Burial will be in Sherburn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mankato Elks Scholarship Fund, Pathstone Adult Day Care or Loyola Catholic School.

 

Bob was born on October 15, 1935, to Dr. Lester O. and Marian (Farrish) Johnson. He graduated from Sherburn High School in 1953, Mankato State College in 1957, and University of Michigan Law School in 1960. He served in the US Air Force as a Judge Advocate Officer (JAG) from 1961 to 1964 in Montana and Panama. He traveled throughout South America trying cases for the Air Force. Following his discharge from military service, he practiced law with the Mankato firm now known as Farrish Johnson, until his retirement in 2001.

 

Bob was raised in the nurturing environment of a multigenerational family home in Sherburn, Minnesota. He was introduced to hunting, fishing, golf, and chicken husbandry at an early age and maintained his enjoyment of the first three all his active life. He especially enjoyed hunting with his Labrador retrievers at his cabin in Grand Marais, Swan Lake, Iowa, Montana, and Saskatchewan. He fished in Minnesota lakes and streams and on trips to Ontario. He was an active member and officer of the Mankato Elks Club.

 

He married Patrice Fallenstein on November 19, 1966, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. They lived in rural Good Thunder until 2015 when they moved to Mankato.

 

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patrice; his three children, Laura Johnson Boudreaux (William), Mara Johnson (Scott Bosse), Malcolm Johnson; four grandchildren, Luc Boudreaux, Beau Boudreaux, Charlotte Johnson, Robert Johnson; brother Dr. Malcolm Johnson (Susan); brother-in-law, Michael Fallenstein (Barbara Graham); sister-in-law, Barbara Friedrichs; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Lester O. Johnson and his mother, Marian L. Johnson.

 

His family is grateful for the visits and support of friends and especially of his college friends in the “Charlie Worm” gang.
