Ruth M. Wood

Ruth Marian Wood, age 99, of Mankato died, Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Old Main Village in Mankato.

Funeral Service 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato.  Visitation will be one hour before service at the church on Thursday.  Family Interment will be in Minneopa Cemetery, rural Mankato.  Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth was born September 24, 1922, to Lloyd A. and Anna M. (Haugen) Swenson in Sherburn, Minnesota. Growing up in Sherburn, she graduated from Sherburn High School in 1941 and then Mankato Teacher’s College.  Ruth taught elementary school until her marriage to Donald W. Wood on May 28, 1945, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Parsonage.  After marriage Ruth was a homemaker for her family and later in life Ruth and Don helped set-up for auctions.  Ruth was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Dorcas Society, and taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fine needlework, reading, dancing, playing piano, and watching reruns of the TV show, Friends.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Spencer (Mickey) Wood of rural Janesville and Debra (Frank) Nelson of Apple Valley; granddaughter, Jennifer (Mike) Guyer-Wood of Mendota Heights; sister, Rae Allan of Mankato.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald on July 31, 2002; son, Sidney Wood in 1987; brother, Russell Swenson.

Ruth’s family would like to thank all of the staff of Old Main Village, especially Gerri DeWitte, for the care and love they gave Ruth during her years there.  They would also like to thank St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion in Ruth’s last days.
