Shirley Ann Chrest

Shirley Ann (Nelson) Chrest, 87 of Winthrop, MN died on January 10, 2021.  Shirley was born February 28, 1933 in New Sweden township to Marvel (Brenke) Nelson and Sheldon Nelson.   

She attended District 6 Nicollet County country school, St. Peter High School and Gustavus Adolphus College. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, Norseland, Mn.

Shirley was united in marriage to John Chrest on July 3, 1953.  They lived in Kenyon, MN for a few years before settling in Winthrop, MN. Shirley and John spent many winters in Texas as Winter Texans.

Shirley was very musical and loved to sing.  She also loved to play cards, especially bridge. She was very active in the First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, the ELCA Federation of Women and other community groups.

When her health began to fail, she moved to South View Living Center in Gibbon, Mn.  The family would like to thank the staff there for their care, compassion and love during those difficult years.

She is survived by her husband John of Winthrop, Mn, her three children, Pamela (Richard) Kirsch of Vergas, MN, John (Linnea) Chrest of Waconia, MN and Patty (Randy) Uecker of Gaylord MN, seven grandchildren, Patrick “Ty” Kirsch (Kate Okerstrom), Kyle Kirsch (Lucy), Rebecca McKinley, Dan Chrest (Laura), Jeffrey Chrest (Lindsay), Kelsey Uecker and Michael Uecker (Liz Hertzenberg), thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Sheldon and Marvel Nelson.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m on Friday January 15^th 2021 at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop.  Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service. No luncheon will be served due to Covid-19 restrictions.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are required.
