Shirley Ann Peterson

Shirley Ann Peterson, age 89, of Mankato, died on October 11, 2022 at her home.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, BENCHS, or Minnesota Valley Pet Hospital.

Shirley was born on January 23, 1933, in Mankato.  She was the daughter of Clarence and Ruby (Knutson) Wiedman.  Shirley grew up in Mapleton and was a 1951 graduate of Mapleton High School.  She attended Mankato Teachers College.  Shirley received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and master’s degree in Learning Disabilities from Mankato State University.  She began teaching in Minneapolis in1954 and retired from Mankato School District #77 in 1988.

Shirley was united in marriage to Donald Peterson on June 25, 1983 in Mankato.  She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Shirley enjoyed reading and attending VINE activities.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald, in 2015; and sister, Arlene (Dennis) Johnson.
