Shyrl R. (Moore) Dorn, 89, of Mankato, passed away peacefully April, 7, 2026 at Oak Terrace Autumn Lane surrounded by family.
A Celebration of Life will be 11 am, on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Hosanna Lutheran Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the services. Lunch will follow after the service. A private family burial will take place at a later time at Minneopa Cemetery. Livestream of the service will be available at https://boxcast.tv/view/shyrl-dorn-funeral-rixsmake0lpbig7otf7o.

Shyrl was born September 14, 1936 in Mankato to Clifford and Arlowine (Ward) Moore. She grew up on the family farm on Hwy 30 in Mapleton, Minnesota. Shyrl graduated from Mapleton High School in 1954.
In 1954 she married Donald Bauman and they were blessed with 3 sons, Bruce, Darcey and Bryon. They later divorced. In 1976 she married Calvin Denton and in 1975 took a job transfer to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. While in Sergeant Bluff she waitressed at Happy Chef. After Cal’s retirement they relocated back to Mankato to be closer to family. Shyrl then began working in Food Services at Bethany Lutheran College. Cal died in 1999 and in 2005 she married Dennis Dorn; Dennis died in 2008.
Shyrl was a very caring person always looking out for others. Throughout the years, she was involved in the foster care program taking in newborns and young children who needed a safe place to stay. While at Bethany, she also touched many of the students’ lives with her kind and giving heart and also at times offered them a temporary home.
Shyrl loved the Lord and was very involved with Hosanna Lutheran Church. She spent many hours attending services, singing in the choir, helping sell script cards and making quilts to distribute throughout the community.
She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Mary) Bauman, Darcey (Colleen) Bauman, and Bryon Bauman; step-son, Terry (Cathy) Denton; grandchildren, Daniel (Gradia), Andrew, Tony, Nathan (Bobbie), Shannan (Dre), Zach; step- grandchildren, Teresa (Scott) Vaubel, Deborah Tennant; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Isabella, Caleb, Hannah, Trinnity, Shane, Shania, Shanyce, Preston, Soraya; step-great-grandchildren, Dylan, Cole, Amanda, Andrew, Alexander, Danyelle, Kimberly; great-great grandchildren, Nicolás; step-great-great granddaughter, Alana; sister-in-law Marian Moore as well as several nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Arlowine; sister, Janice (Bud) Sommers; brother, Melvin; 3 husbands, Donald Bauman, Calvin Denton, and Dennis Dorn; step-daughter, Nancy (Harlan) Compton; step-son, Greg Denton; step-grandson, James Compton, and her nephew, David Sommers.
A special thank you to the Oak Terrace staff, Hosanna staff, and Prairie Grace Hospice for all the care she received. To her special friends Christine, Kim, Stacy, and Lynn, we are so thankful for the time you spent with her, getting her to church services, choir practices and performances.
