Stephen Dennis Herz

Stephen Dennis Herz, age 66 of Mankato, MN passed away peacefully at his home on September 30, 2026 surrounded by his wife, daughter, and grandson.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary (1001 N. Riverfront Drive). Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Calvary All Saints Cemetery, Madison Lake.

Stephen was born February 17,1960 to Francis and Esther (Muldoon) Herz. Steve was one of eleven children in a house filled with love. Growing up in Madison Lake, MN Steve and his brothers would go deer hunting every year, He loved hunting with his brothers. Though a man of few words his presence was strong and deeply felt by everyone fortunate enough to know him. Steve worked as a carpenter for many years just as his father was. He was very proud to be a union carpenter. On August 1,1997 he married his wife, Imogene Kennedy in Madison Lake, MN. They were together for 29 wonderful years, and raised a daughter and built a life filled with love.

Steve will be missed by his wife, Imogene; daughter, Katrina Ochwal Mankato, MN; his grandchildren, Tatyana Ochwal Winona, MN and Lincoln Hyland; brothers and sisters, John Herz Madison Lake, MN, Darlene Ommundson (Mike) Madison Lake, MN, Patrick Herz (Janet) Eagle Lake, MN, Tom (Dawn) Herz Madison Lake, MN, Joe Herz Madison Lake, MN, Dan Herz Madison Lake, MN, Donald Herz Le Sueur, MN, Kathleen Harper (Mike Sr.) Mankato, MN, and Michael Herz Madison Lake, MN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy Lichtsinn (David), Janet Schmahl (Chuck), Dawn Kennedy, and Michelle Tabares; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Esther (Muldoon) Herz; his baby sister, Mary E Herz; father-in-law, Charles Kennedy; mother-in-law, Virginia Kennedy; brothers-in-law, Dale Griffens and John Kennedy; and sister-in-law, Linda Kennedy.
