Sydelle (Syd) Marion McCabe, 69 of Mankato, died of natural causes in her home on Friday April 22nd, 2022.
Sydelle was born in Baltimore Maryland on August 22nd, 1952. The daughter of William & Patricia Peitz grew up in Mankato, MN with 2 siblings. She graduated from Loyola High School in 1970. After completing High School, she continued her education by attending Mankato State University and earning a bachelor's degree. As a lifelong learner she was devoted to completing a Master of Divinity degree from St John’s University in 2007.
Throughout her life Sydelle was drawn to positions of employment that provided service to others including most recently 8 years with the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Pastoral Care. She spent many years dedicated to other organizations in various roles including 5 years with Second Harvest Heartland where she helped individuals receive food support and worked closely with the ECHO Food Shelf. She also provided campus ministry to Minnesota State Mankato students as the Director of the St Thomas More Newman Center for 14 years.
With a great desire to experience and enjoy life, Sydelle was a member of the Girl Scouts which included a trip to Europe, leading her daughter’s troops, and empowering future female leaders. She enjoyed camping and canoeing and went on multiple trips to the BWCA with family & friends. Her passion for baking led to the start of her out of home bakery Syd’s Sweets Treats. This allowed Sydelle to share her family special recipes with others and gave her an opportunity to bake with her children and grandchildren to carry on family traditions. For Sydelle, music was EVERYTHING! She played guitar and sang with several church music groups, entertained the masses at family campouts, and would always be the first one to start a sing-along.
Sydelle devoted her life to the teachings of the church, spreading messages of faith TO ALL. Sydelle was the true personification of goodness, acceptance, and inclusion OF ALL.
