Thomas Paul Frederick

Thomas Paul Frederick, 90 years old, died Friday, January 12, 2024 at Pathstone Memory Care surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held from 4-7pm, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be 11am, Thursday, January 18, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Military honors will be provided by the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad. Following a reception at church, burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Please share a memory of Tom with his family and view his video tribute at www.mankatomortuary.com. 

Memorials are preferred to The Schola Foundation in care of the Tanya Stier and Nicholas Frederick fund or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. 

Tom was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato on December 16, 1933 to William and Wanda Frederick. He grew up on the family farm outside of Madison Lake with six brothers and two sisters. He attended All Saints School in Madison Lake and Loyola High School.  

Tom was united in marriage on July 26, 1956 at the St. James Catholic Church to Carol Ann Schumacher.  

Tom was a founding member of Happy Chef Systems, which included Ruttles 50’s Grill, Stoney’s Fine Dining, and Happy Chef, and others. He dedicated 60+ years in the restaurant business and was inducted into the MN Hospitality Hall of Fame in 2014.  

He served as a board member of First National Bank of Minnesota for 43 years and was a board member for Super 8 Developers. Tom was also an active member at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and served on many charity and community boards throughout the community.  

He encouraged his family to pursue their passions by attending music events and watching sports, especially women’s basketball and fastpitch softball. Tom was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the MN Softball Association in 1996. He was an avid Vikings fan but was sympathetic to the Packers. Tom treasured spending time with his kids and grandkids, playing catch and basketball in the driveway, and especially the annual Lake Okoboji trip. Tom and Carol also enjoyed wintering in Fountain Hills, AZ.  

Tom was a kind and gentle soul. He had a good sense of humor and loved to giggle. He loved to help entrepreneurs get their start in business.  

Tom is survived by his wife, Carol Frederick of Mankato; children, Lisa (Dennis) Cummiskey of St. Peter, Tom (Julie) Frederick, Jr. of Mankato, Gwen (Sharon) Frederick of Rochester, Judy Einck of Austin, and Jill (Keith) Hammerschmidt of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Molly Cummiskey, Cassie (Jamie Malecka) Cummiskey, Tara (Adam) Kunkel, Kayla (Sam) Hicok, Marissa (Jake Mellema) Frederick, Sam (Alexa Dusek) Stier, Brady (Charlotte) Stier, Grace Einck, Leo Einck, Hannah (Matt Moreno) Keach, and Katie Keach; great-grandchildren, Blakely Stier, Everly Stier, Abel Stier, Frederick Hicok, Henry Hicok, Gemma Stier, and Ruby Kunkel; siblings, Ed Frederick and Helen Dale; sister-in-law, Sandra Frederick; and dog, Tip. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Wanda Frederick; grandchildren, Tanya Stier and Nicholas Frederick; siblings, Sal and Rosie Frederick, Jerry and Lorraine Frederick, Bob and Anne Frederick, Shirley Frederick, Nick Frederick, Bill Frederick, and Patricia and Jim Matejcek.
