Thomas “Tom” J. Hager, Sr., age 89, of Mankato, died June 15, 2024.

Thomas was born November 21, 1934, to Logan J. and Anastasia (Templin) Hager in Mapleton. He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1952. A retired combat veteran during the Vietnam war, Tom served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952-1972, retiring as Captain. He was united in marriage to Lois Helen McQuitty, on September 11, 1956, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Oklahoma City, OK. Tom owned and operated Hager Flooring Installation from 1974-2006. Tom was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post 11, Morson-Ario-Strand VFW Post 950, Disabled American Veterans, Moose Lodge, and the Eagle’s Club. Tom enjoyed gardening.
Tom was always happy to share the latest funny story or joke. He quit watching TV when All in the Family and Sanford and Son went off the air. His friends were always welcome to enjoy shootin’ the bull and adult beverages in this “dork den”, his garage. He loved spending time with his family as often as possible. He missed his wife, Helen for many years. Once she was gone he was limited to “heat & eat” or what his sons and neighbors would bring him. He was proud of the fact that the last person to have used his stove was his wife. Tom loved playing devils advocate, especially with his boys. He would run over a yard of broken glass to help anyone in need.
Tom is survived by three sons, Tom (Robyn) Hager, Jr. of Eagle Lake, Logan Hager of Mankato, and Jerry (Jill) Hager of Good Thunder; four grandchildren, Ariel (Kailen) Singleton, Laura Hager, Courtney (Tanner) Scharping, and Travis (Andrea) Leuer; seven great-grandchildren; two siblings, Mike (Pat) Hager and Diane Schweiss; brother-in-law, Ted Wolfe Jr.; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen in 2008; two sisters, Kay (Fran) Schweiss and Rita Wolfe; brother-in-law, Ray Schweiss.
